Looking for a fun, summer camp for kids who love the outdoors? Reel Fun Kids Fishing Camp is a unique, boat-based day camp held on the Long Island Sound, designed to teach kids ages 8–16 the fundamentals of fishing, marine life, and environmental stewardship. No prior fishing experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to learn.

Camp Info

    • Ages: 8 – 16 years old

    • Skill Level: No fishing experience necessary

    • Physical Requirements: Campers must be able to move comfortably in a boat and participate in outdoor activities.

    Each session is limited to 4 campers to ensure personal instruction and maximum time fishing with Captain Ken.

    • June 15 – 19, 8am - 11am

    • July 6 – 10, 8am - 11am or 12pm - 4pm

    • July 20 - 24, 8am - 11am or 12pm - 4pm

    • August 3 – 7, 8am - 11am or 12pm - 4pm

    • August 17 – 21, 8am - 11 am or 12pm - 4pm

    • ADVANCED WEEK

      July 13 - 17, Ages 12 - 16, 5 hours, 5 days, 7am - 12pm $850.00/week

  • What to Bring

    • USCG-approved life jacket (available if needed)

    • Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses

    • Jacket/sweatshirt (mornings can be cool)

    • Rain gear (we fish in the rain!)

    • Waterproof boots or sneakers (no black soles or sandals)

    • Water and a light snack

Camp Activities & Education

Target Fish Species: Striped bass, bluefish, blackfish, seabass, flounder, sharks, dogfish, eels, and more

Fishing Techniques & Skills: Knot tying, casting, rigging, bait selection, conservation, and catch & release

Environmental Exploration: Seine netting, fish tagging, lobster/crab trap pulling, and fish dissection

Conservation Focus: Learn how to filet fish, study anatomy, and understand marine food chains.

  • Each week will be different and will be based upon the time of season, and activities planned for that week

  • All fishing gear is included, but campers may bring their own rod. Every participant receives a Reel Fun Kids Fishing Camp T-shirt.

Weather Planning

Fishing will primarily occur inshore and nearshore in Long Island Sound, with backup plans to fish in the Niantic River or Connecticut River during inclement weather.

Pricing

Full Week (Mon–Fri): Starting at $595 per camper

“Test the Waters” Single Day Rate: $150.00/day for 3 hour session (based on availability – contact Capt. Ken directly)

Refund Policy:

  • Refunds available (minus $50 admin fee) until May 1, 2026

  • After May 1, refunds only if the spot is filled, minus a $100 re-schedule fee

Missed Days:

  • Make-up days or refunds for cancellations caused by weather or equipment issues

  • No refunds for personal absences unless a substitute camper is arranged in advance
